Healthy soil is the foundation of productive, and sustainable agriculture. At Fountain Ark Farms, we understand working with the land and not against it will provide nutrient dense Elderberries.
Organic compost enriches soil, helping retain moisture and suppress plant diseases and pests. Also reduces the need for chemical fertilizers. We know the importance of good bacteria and fungi within the soil. Compost can hold nutrients tight enough to prevent them from washing out, but loosely enough so plants can take them up as needed. We strive to create a healthy balance to maximize water infiltration, improve nutritional density, and ultimately improve the land, in return healthy crop yields.
Fountain Ark Farms uses cover crops which provides valuable services to lessen and help control the weed pressure. The cover crops will also improve the ability of soil to take in water. Cover crops also build soil organic matter, holds soil in place that might otherwise erode, and feed soil organisms that provide valuable nutrients during the traditional growing season.
